Are there any other director-level, or above, women in the group? I would love to ask some questions about resume format.
I've always included most of my experience on my resume (at least all relevant, with fewer details on older positions), keeping it to 2 pages. I have gotten some recent advice to basically lop off everything older than the most recent 2 jobs (~ 8 yrs of experience) and put everything else into a single, very-concise, bullet point.
There are things I like about this (and it shortens my resume a ton) but I am still interested in Director-level jobs and am concerned this will actually hinder my chances as it won't show the 15+ yrs of relevant work experience.
What have those of you with 15+ yrs experience done recently? Lopped off the old stuff? Significantly reduced details, but still listed all relevant experience? Something else?
Thanks in advance!
I am a scientific recruiter at the Broad Institute and I can say that when dealing with Scientist and medical personnel, we want that CV/ resume that includes all your experience . 1 page resumes are often tossed to the side, because they don't have the skill sets includes. My recommendation to anyone who wants to have a 1 page resume, match your resume to the job description.
Thank you for confirming this for me Terra. This is what I was thinking that the overall experience matters
Yes this sounds correct the lady at Robert Half gave me that advice and she was serious so that is just one page that they want people to have.
Lesa Edwards, in this group, does resume assistance. Highly recommend her.
Director Level- over 15u experience as well for accounting. I list accomplishments. Tasks are rather obvious so I focus on the extraordinary
It is hard, particularly for those of us with 15+ years. What I have decided to do is to only include work experience that directly relates to the job I am applying for. I include other experiences as bullet points in a sidebar.

I have been applying to director level roles (first time) and I completely started over with my resume format and followed the did X so that we can Y which resulted in Z format that Google uses. It’s had more attention than my resumes of the past. I also created a side panel of success metrics, awards, certs. Hope that helps.
Sounds like mine, especially the sidebar portion!!
I had never heard of the XYZ (at least by name). I just found an article on Inc. about it. I have tried to use metrics/quantify results in the past, but I like the examples that were given, of the XYZ method and see if I can rewrite some of my resume. Thank you for the input!
