Hi.
I'm not sure if this is the right group to post this in, but ... I've worked for a company for almost 16 years now - and while I like the people I work for and it's a good place to work - it's time to move on. The problem is - I need the flexibility I have now - my son has some medical issues and my husband owns his own business so I'm on my own most of the time with my son (he just turned 3). During COVID - I realized I really don't want to go back to commuting at all. I work in the legal field, but really work on the client side of things and for the practice groups. However, every time someone sees my resume they just automatically assume "legal secretary" or "paralegal". I guess I'm looking for ideas on how to make the next step. Thank you!
I used to sell legal software to corporations - what about a legal ops role? I bet with your experience you’d be a great asset to a CLO and many of those types of roles can be really flexible about what you would be doing because of the type of the work. Just a thought- good luck!
Even better, font lead with “seeking” ...lead with your strengths and show off your transferable skills! Leveraging extensive ___experiencevto deliver ___to —- (your new dream company).
You’ll need to tread carefully to not tip off your current employer that you’re actively looking ..but there are ways around that too.
Keep your LinkedIn profile updated, and get as many fresh recommendations as you can that will talk about your interests and abilities beyond your current role.
Make your story about the valuable lessons and skills you’ve learned, and what the future has in store for you. Perhaps call it “a passion for ___”
We teach all this in detail in my academy. It’s very possible to land your dream role with the right strategy and daily effort toward goals that matter most in your family’s next chapter.
Got questions? I’ll be live on Clubhouse 11am-noon Monday @Rockonsuccess
I just found my remote job, and I understand what you are going through. My job prospects increased significantly when I dropped my cover letters and simply wrote at the top of my resume in larger italic letters “Seeking remote, work from home position in ......’’” The rest of my resume emphasized my experience in area of my profession that I really wanted to do remotely. Best of luck!
Have you done any research on legal departments within corporations? Something client-facing there may serve you well!
Hi anonymous! First, I'd keep up hope that you can find another opportunity that will fit your needs. Remote work is more available now than ever thanks to COVID. If your title is a bit confusing to recruiters, I would try to write an executive summary right at the top that describes you are NOT a paralegal.
