Over Reacting
Every day I search job boards looking for an opening that fits my skill set and then I follow up the next day in hopes to speak with a human. To date, I haven't spoken to anyone and on several occasions I was told the position didn't exist. Not that it was closed, that is didn't ever exist. This makes me extremely nervous about applying to any job because my contact information is in my resume.
Today while I was searching, I noticed job listed in LinkedIn were not listed on the posting company's website. Of course, this make me even more nervous. Am I over reacting or just burnt out?
I watched a webcast yesterday that talked about the importance of job postings being valid. It's okay to say "we are not currently hiring" during a pandemic, but false hope by leaving up job posts is worse.
As for the fake jobs, I've run into that occassionally as well. Sometimes I think jobs that get scraped and then scraped again and so on end up in some weird cyber queue with a delay in time and they end up on random sites. Not sure though, and what I've done is take my home address off and just provide email and phone number. I can more easily manage blocking someone that way.
I agree. There was a similar post on Linkedin recently that encouraged companies to be honest and transparent about current openings, and show empathy towards job seekers. I understand why some organizations / recruitments agencies post fake job ads (keep/grow their candidates' pool) but in my opinion, they don't show much respect or empathy when they choose to do so. It takes time and effort to identify the right opportunity and apply (resume, cover letter, online forms, writing samples etc.) that it would be nice if recruiters could put themselves in the applicants' shoes.
That is a good idea.
