Hi everyone !
I'm new to the group but excited to be here. I'm presently on the job hunt and it is crushing my soul. I've been very lucky and have networked my way into my last 3 jobs but I'm making a career pivot. I have a diverse background as I've had management and sales roles in staffing, financial services, and banking. I'm not sure which industries my experience would lend the most value to as I feel like a Jill of all trades master of none lol. Hence my problem. I'm presently an Account Executive for a local volleyball academy but I miss the B2B sales and being a small business they don't have a 401k. I feel my job tenure of 2.5 years is hurting me and I don't feel I do well on Zoom interviews as I'm more of a people person plus at 55 I feel ageism is at play as much as I don't want to admit it. Anyway just venting some and looking for advice on how to proceed next. Any suggestions or insights are most appreciated. Here's my linkedin https://www.linkedin/in/shirley-lents Wishing everyone here all the best! Shirley LentsSo glad that we met my beautiful friend! You can do ANYTHING.
Checked out your LinkedIn profile and that looks pretty good to me. Are you getting interviews?
I would choose 20ish companies you really want to work for and start adding people on LinkedIn who would be your boss and peers. Then start networking virtually. "Would love to hear what you all are up to and how I can help".
It is easy to get in your head about things. By having these more natural conversations you can hopefully overcome the zoom anxiety. There are also some places on the internet where you can pay to get interviews and feedback about your performance.
Thank you! Yes I'm getting interviews but all have been by Zoom. I took your advice getting feedback on my interviews and signed up for Standout. :)
Welcome Shirley. First, I wouldn't worry about how your tenure looks for the past 2.5 years. We all know that life and work were not normal. People lost jobs, changed jobs and took breaks. As long as you can clearly articulate the changes, it's all good.
As for not doing well on Zoom interviews, whether in-person or over Zoom you are still dealing with people and can still make a good impression! Is there someone you can practice with so you get more comfortable with it and can find your rhythm? That can be very helpful.
Good luck!
Hi Alexis and thank you! Yes that is what I've decided to do. It is just practice practice practice right lol
