Introduction
I am an empty nester who is seeking new opportunities. I am free to travel where I wish. There are two types of positions I am interested in obtaining. The first is instructional. I have taught English for over twenty years at both the secondary and college level. The second is any position where I can use the knowledge and skills from my MEd in higher education to help student retention.
My first love is language. My MA in literature allows me to share this love with secondary and college students. Because I enjoy mystery, mythology, and writing grants, I was able to become a Funds for Teachers fellow and travel to Ireland to look for the real story behind some of their folk talks and myths. I also used this same desire and skill set to become a Teachers for Global Classrooms fellow. As such, I spent three weeks in India visiting schools, reading to students, and teaching teachers how to teach writing. The last travel grant I wrote took me to Belfast for six months as a Fulbright Distinguished Teacher. Here I studied the effects of community conflict on learning.
My second love is learning. When I returned from Belfast, I began working on an MEd in Adult and Higher Education. Because I was exposed to social and cultural capital through my independent research, I was pleased to find these ideas figured prominently in my studies on retention of marginalized students. Most of my work has been in this area as well as experiential and independent learning.
I look forward to hearing about your journeys as well.
Thanks Carolyn. I will keep an eye out for instructional roles.
