I have a degree in IT, my last job was as an IT Analyst at the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office.
I am looking to expand my career. It's been so hard to find new employment since leaving that company.
Hello Tanika, is an IT Analyst like a Business Analyst? In what way do you want to expand your career?
Do you have a sense of where the difficulties lie? For example, are you not seeing job advertisements, or are you seeing job ads that ask for skills or tools you don't have, or are you getting first interviews but not second interviews, etc?
Hi Priya, I do believe Business Analysts is similar but not the same as IT Analyst. Business analysts kind of bridges the gap between IT and a business using data analytics. I’m still unclear on where the problem for me comes in. I’ve had interview after interview and even gotten second interviews but I’m never chosen. Yes some of those position require skills I don’t posses but isn’t that what training is for? I’m very open and diligent in learning any and everything I need to about any job that I have.
Well, if you are getting first and second interviews then it sounds like your resume and cover letter are doing the job.
Have you ever asked an interviewer for feedback on what would have made you a stronger candidate? Not everyone will respond, but that could be helpful information (either about them or about your candidacy).

That's when networking really comes into play. Professional organizations can also help you build on your existing network of former coworkers and contacts.
It seems like my 5 years of IT experience doesn't matter.
