job searching during COVID
I have been searching for jobs - positions such as account manager, customer success manager, renewal managers, etc. I have 5+ years experience with outstanding performance. I have received zero calls back regarding my resume. Not even to phone interviews. What gives? Are companies just posting reqs without intentions to fill? Anyone else running into this? I have asked so many people for feedback on my resume and received great tips so I am just surprised.
Thank you all for your help and feedback!
I was struggling to find a job too. What worked out for me was to enroll in the Virtual Job Events in my area. Once you subscribe you will get the chance to talk directly and connect with recruiters. I’ve attended several and finally one worked out! My experience is once you talked to them in the virtual event, connect with them via Linkedin and then send out a follow up message on the conversation and the position you applied on their company. It is a 50/50 chance they might answer you or not, but at least you made the connection with the recruiter.
Good Luck in your search!!
I've been struggling with finding work and have changed my strategy more than once. What has worked for me is revising my resume to only include the last ten years of experience and following up with the employers after I apply.
I empathize with everyone on this thread. I have 10+ years of experience in publishing/editorial/content creation and have only applied for a handful of jobs that I am very excited about and *know* I'm a great fit for; I've done informational interviews with folks from almost all of the companies; I've had acquaintances pass my applications along to HR... crickets. And then I see the jobs getting reposted! I've also had multiple recruiters tell me to reach out "once things start opening up" because they have nothing. It's beyond frustrating.
It's probably s little of everything. Some companies may just be collecting resumes and others may have things changing frequently given the uncertainty. Plus remember that there are A LOT more people job searching now. One recruiter I spoke with said prepandemic he was working with only 5 people who were passively looking. Now he has 100 unemployed candidates.
Companies are getting their pick and are also probably too inundated with applicants to respond to everyone.
As for the WFH, I've seen the same on the job boards. Though one recruiter suggested that companies may be more flexible after finding the right candidate in with WFH arrangements.
I’m in this boat as well. When I reach out for referrals, my contacts tell me that a position has been changed to “internal hire only” or they’re already filled despite the fact that the listing is still active. So I wind up wasting time applying for jobs that really aren’t a possibility. It’s beyond frustrating.
Hi Serena. I am in the very same boat searching for the same type of positions but with 20+ years of experience. I’ve updated my resume, had it reviewed and am receiving no calls or even emails. The ones I do receive are scams. It is so very frustrating.
I also see HR Professionals posting that they see an uptick in WFH positions - I’m not seeing this. What I do is is a temporary WFH until CO ID-19 passes then it’s to an office. I think there is so much misinformation out there it’s hard to keep it straight. I wish you good luck!
