Is the coronavirus hurting your job search?
Currently, the vast majority of recruiters say it’s business as usual for their companies, but some admit in the latest edition of #GetHired that they’re conducting more video interviews out of an abundance of caution. SHRM President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., suggests people keep job seeking despite the outbreak, because a job you want may get snatched up by someone else if you put your search on pause. The jobs landscape may change if the outbreak continues too long, however. One economist from the Peterson Institute for International Economics says some companies could reduce hiring as long as there is economic uncertainty. Have you seen any changes due to the virus?
For me it has been a little different, ups and down. Recruiters has contacted me for either phone or video screening, in the conversation they mentioned the company is in need to fill the position and that they will continue to hire. But then when I do the follow up, no answer from them. Feel that I have been "ghosted", which is not a good feeling. In the meantime decided to pursue an online certification and decided to jump into the social media manager field. Seeking more opportunities.
I do recommend to network in the Linkedin platform. Love to connect https://www.linkedin.com/in/patricia-m-velez-mba/
I am one of those looking for a job at this time. I resigned from my last position February 18th. I am still happy with my decision but due to the current situation I am seeing less and less positions posted and available due to companies trying to just make it day to day. I have had interviews cancelled. Looking for insight in this unknown time as to how to achieve my goal of returning to the profession I know and love.
Hmm, I'm having the opposite experience - getting lot's of recruiter outreach (I think everyone has more time right now due to shelter in place) - wondering if you're putting yourself out on the right sites to attract their attention. I don't know what is your field or expertise, but Linkedin is a great place to start if you're not there already.
