Guidance
Hello there beautiful humans! I hope that everyone is having a great day and start to their week!!!
Question/Guidance
Job searching is so tough right and I know that so many others are feeling the stress, the frustration, and sometimes just want to cry all day long.
In all seriousness, I am looking for some guidance as I have tried every avenue under the sun..
I need help deciphering the following from recruiters/auto-emails
-- There are more competitive candidates for this role -- it was entry level for Contact Tracing and something that I would really love to learn, but does this mean they assume based on my resume that I want too much money? I hope not.
-- There are other applicants who are better suited for the role -- My previous role is an exact match to this one -- not sure how to decipher this, or these simply auto-emails sent out without information beyond that.
-- Sorry we will not be moving forward with your application. -- I know that this is pretty obvious, but what exactly does this mean? Not even a phone screen? Or reason as to why?
-- We do not believe you are right fit for the role that you are applying to....-- again obvious, but can we have a reason why?
The endless networking!!! I pretty much work my LI close to 4-6 hours day, if not more introductions, reaching out, etc etc, but this is getting me nowhere. Advice?
I have only had 2 interviews in 7 months.
I have had my resume reviewed, edited for feedback by recruiters, career coaches, those who specialize in resume writing etc I do adjust my resume to the JD I applying to, but to no avail nothing in return.
I am curious, is this just a sign of the times? I am pretty optimistic, but some days are harder than others.
Recruiters, if you are reading this what is your opinion? Honest opinion. I am not one to shy away from feedback. Plus, I have a ton of empathy for those working behind the scenes with the endless applicant screenings. I can only imagine how busy they are, not to mention how they are shifting to a remote format.
Perhaps the overload with applications is causing these auto-responses? Recruiters/HR overwhelmed so they only look at a handful of applicants?
Yes, the times are crazy right now! LOL, but what are we fellow job seekers to do in this climate?
Again, I empathize with recruiters right now and my heart goes out to them, but a tiny bit more insight would be awesome. Sadly, we cannot respond due to the auto-email.
Thank you in advance for all those that read and respond!! Much love to you and I hope that are you staying healthy and safe!
Have beautiful week everyone!
As a recruiter, we have a very generic response to resume that are reject because although I do my best to stay connected with candidates I cannot give a specific reason why we reject a resume. However, if my candidate is interviewed and rejected I try to get some information as to why but sometimes the hiring manager will not it or just say the candidate wasn't what they are looking for.
May I ask what type of positions are you applying for?
Thank you for sharing this insight! I have applied to on ground college campuses and online colleges. I have over 10 years in higher education and I hoping to stay in this field; however, I did apply to a community clinic in the city I live in, and the job is the same, but related to community services for the public.
HI Lauren, Nice to meet you. I'm a recruiter and I'll try to help you understand the use of autoresponders. The company I work for gets about 40,000 applications in a year. We have 10 recruiters. If I personally were able to share the why behind my decisions I would love to, but if I customized a response would essentially mean I did nothing but respond to people we're declining vs actually hiring anyone. Also, sadly there is some evidence that companies can be sued for providing feedback, so it's seen as risky to do so.
I would highly recommend working with a career coach. 7 months with only two interviews seems off to me unless you're in a very specialized field. LMK if you want recommendations.
Wishing you all the best!

Hi Steph!!
Thank you so much for responding and giving me this insight!! I cannot believe you receive up 40k a year in applications! This is the behind the scenes stuff I was looking, thank you for filling me in.
I am in specialized field, but I think I am going to connect with my career coach again; outside of making adjustments to my resume when necessary, this may need to revision as this was month or so before COVID.
Thank you so much for sharing this information with me, I truly appreciate it.
Thank you Steph!
Of course, happy to help! I'd be happy to connect on LinkedIn if that's helpful, I have over 8000 connections and someone may know the right person you need to connect to!
I would absolutely love to connect with you on LinnkedIn!
