Staying Motivated in a Pandemic Job Search

Hi everyone! How are you staying motivated in this tough time of finding a job? What do you do on a daily basis to "get excited" about your future? I'm having a tough time of enjoying the now because I feel I'm constantly looking at my next step. This is tough because I find I'm unhappy as a result of this.

I hope that the past 90 days have progressed in a positive way for you, but if they have been a bit of a roller coaster the way it has been for me...here is how I'm keeping my motivation and moxy going. 1) in bed by 10:00PM, and turn on the "Do Not Disturb" feature on for my phone each night. 2) a scheduled work out program first thing in the AM 3) journal everyday. I have been journaling for over 20+ years. It's good to do a full brain dump and get those negative thoughts out of your head. I insist on writing 5 good things each day. It is hard someday to write that out, but even if I can only start with "I woke up today" it's a good thing. 4) eat healthy - no junk in the house means no junk in the tummy during WFH. It was a challenge in the beginning. I even weaned myself off of sugar in my two cups of coffee in the AM. **Note, I am using my save it for a rainy day Limoges coffee cup. COVID19 and social distancing has been a rainy season. 5) connect with two positive people per day. If they start turn negative, or I catch myself doing the same, I fake an incoming call that I must take. 6) I have an alarm on my phone that reads "stop work" set for 5:30PM each day. It can be a challenge keeping work & home life separate during WFH. 7) I am doing creative fun things, i.e., photography, pastel drawing, and binge watching on the weekend various cooking shows.

As the weeks go by I find it harder and harder to stay positive, and then I find it harder and harder to even look for job. What is the point when I know I will be rejected. I've created a routine which helps, I exercise often and read a lot. I know things will get better but they've been bad for so long I no longer have faith they will.

Rebecca, I can relate and am feeling the same way. It has been really hard to stay motivated and have hope after a year of rejection. The worse I feel, the harder it is to apply to more jobs. I can totally relate to your comment. I hope things turn around for us both soon.

Staying motivated right now is tough not only with less jobs out there but with this whole new lifestyle change with COVID. Its important to stay positive and doing things part of your daily routine to cultivate positive energy.. and setting a goal of applying to x amount of jobs per day or spending x amount of time looking for jobs/learning a new skill but also finding time to for my mental health.. we will all get thru this :)
