7 steps to get ready for retirement in 10 years

As I continue my exploration of what retirement means I came across this article that is interesting. https://www.merrilledge.com/article/7-steps-prepare-for-your-upcoming-retirement This includes a range of actions from investment portfolio strategy to identifying where you want to live. All of this is helpful information and what I keep coming back to is defining what I want. How do I get more clear on what I envision life will be like. I find the place I am in life interesting as I consider the future and at the same time I am mentoring students finishing undergrad and grad school. They have the same questions but with a much different focus. Or is it really that different? My point is where ever you are in your life journey the question will be there to answer, "what do I want in life? What is important to me? How do I get there?" among other questions. I have personally focused on this over the past 20 years as I raised daughters, loved my husband, connected with family and friends, maintained my health, and grew my career. It started with working with a coach to define my values, aspirations, vision, mission, and priorities. Most recently I incorporated a process from my work using the Toyota Kata Improvement Kata method. This may sound like a strange thing to use but it is a very universal approach to use when going from a identifying a challenge and how to achieve it. Through a series of steps: challenge, current condition, target condition, and experimentation you keep moving forward towards reaching the challenge. In my case it is "retire in 8 years." The difficult part for me is to focus on this while continuing to work and grow in my current role. Please share things you have done to uncover these answers.

Thank you for the post and the reference about the Toyota Kata Improvement Kata method. I plan to read up on the Kata method.
