The best life: Retirement - full-time to semi and beyond.

What does retirement mean to you?

Ever wonder what you will do when you retire? How will you feel? Will it be relaxing, following a long awaited dream? I wonder this on a regular basis. I'm curious what others are thinking about retirement and what they are doing to get there? As I looked into this question for myself I think about what I want to do, where I want to be, and who I want to be. I imagine a life of exploring new areas, having energy and time to do what I'm passionate about, enjoying being with people how have similar interests that will challenge and support each other. Journaling is one way I am able to explore more of what all of this means. I found an article that helped with the 10 things to do when transitioning to retirement. Check it out and let me know if you have followed these ore other great tips. https://www.newretirement.com/retirement/transition-to-retirement-10-exceptional-tips/ Share your plans.......

Hi Marne, I have used google hangout, zoom, and skype. I use Zoom for work meetings. I know hangout and skype are free. Not sure about zoom. It would be great to setup a time for a virtual session. I will create a separate post with a few date time suggestions and see what responses come in.

Hi Barb, I don't think of it as retirement (That has too many cliches...and I have no grandchildren, or children for that matter). I think of it as starting the next interesting phase of my life. Maybe I will start a new career in something really fun and different, maybe I will spend my time volunteering, maybe I will dip into the gig economy on Fiverr or Upwork - still thinking! I would love to find someone in a similar situation to brainstorm with. Would you consider setting up some sort of virtual hangout session for this group?

Hi Marne, I'm getting caught up on responses. I agree with you, the more I read and learn from others in the same stage of life I'm realizing that career change at 50+ years is more about the next phase of life. It isn't retirement in the traditional sense. There are elements of retirement planning from a financial sense but then is that really financial planning for the future? I like the idea of a virtual hangout session. I'm not sure the best way to set that up. Have you used that format before?

Hi Barb -I haven't used google hangout, but I have used Zoom meetings and Skype meetings - of the 2, I find Zoom more stable. Are you familiar with either?
