Career pivot - help needed!
About 3 years ago I was laid off after 18 years of being at the same company. I was a VP (fashion merchandising) and making a nice salary. I chose to take it as a blessing since I had never been home with my kids. I ended up getting my real estate license to continue trying to earn some income. The flexibility has been great as has the family time. But...the kids are now both in high school and even though I'm doing well, it's nowhere near my old salary. I'm ready to get back out there but would like to pivot into marketing/brand management or even consulting. It seems like every job posting I see (even at lower levels) is looking for more specific experience in that role than I have. Any tips on how to pivot? Thanks!
Hey there! What a fun chapter of life to step into! One of the biggest pieces of advice that I give people who are pivoting is to "create proof" that you can do what you say you can. Whether that's beefing up a digital portfolio, doing freelance/pro bono work, or taking a certification course, any recent data points help employers to take you more seriously as a candidate. What have you tried like that so far?
