Career Change Clarity!

Hello I have been in social service/mental health for the past 17yrs.

The last 6yrs I came to work for a school district to do mental health but I have maxed out by salary scale and potential for advancement. In my previous positions I have been a supervisor and program manager. I have lead small and large groups. I am seeking to try something different where I can teach/coach/mentor more vs just running a grant to provide counseling to students. I really enjoy building and expanding programs. I am having a hard time getting jobs where I will be more hands on and less management. I have applied to other jobs where I have less responsibilities but I fear I will get bored. I am at a crossroads as to what is next for me and trying to see things clearly. I really would love to try higher education but have no experience working with college age students. Any suggestions on fields or jobs I should look into? Getting into higher ed?

Hello Noemi! I have been successful in pivoting into mid-level HR positions that are quite hands on. The pay tends to be higher as well and you learn so much. I work at a nonprofit that emphasizes education of the workforce so it's very hands on!

I have looked for positions at community colleges and larger universities where I could prepare the next generation of mental health professionals. I have looked at county jobs where I can supervise and train again younger professionals. I have looked at school districts.

Where do you have your resume posted? If your resume is not posted, you're doing all the work. Also companies might be looking for someone with your background, but if it's not posted, they can't find you. Some of the best jobs I've ever had, they reached out to me. Is your LinkedIn profile up to snuff? Can your experience be transferred to say to a hospital?
