Is there any extra training I can receive for this role?
This is a question I've always wanted to ask HR/my manager. Because a key part of career success is personal development. And I'd love to opportunity to continue to set goals and learn new skills and I'm not sure how to approach this conversation. Any advice?
I agree that this shouldn't be a big ask but I also understand that for many organizations it is. In a past position, I always had money in the budget for employee training but it was always cut just before the budget was approved. Personally I believe training is a two way street. I, as a manager, should put my money where my mouth is and train my current employees up to new roles and responsibilities. My employees, should also take responsibility. In my case, I love Udemy as I can get courses for $20-$50 and I can stretch myself in areas where my employer may not think it is a part of my job. As they reap the benefit of my cheap course, they often will then pony up for a more indepth one as they see how it helps on the job. This is how I got my project management professional certification.
Good Luck!

Good for you! This should not be a difficult ask. Your manager should welcome your motivation. Even if there is no obvious training related to your role, come with some creative ideas. Maybe you can attend a conference in your field, improve your skills with a certain software (ahem, Excel! or even Outlook!) Basically you want to come across as engaged and committed, not bored or ungrateful. If the training costs something, see if there is budget for Professional Development, Events/Conference attendance, or Tuition Reimbursement. In the case of Tuition Reimb, be sure you understand your company's policy. The rates of reimbursement vary and some require approval or min grades, etc. Plus most of the non-degree courses and certificates and bootcamp institutions are usually not covered under corporate policies.
