Need help with updating resume
I have been at the same company for almost 22 yrs. I got the job from the newspaper -- 'pre-internet' ! I know times have changed and what people look for in resumes. Where can I get assistance with updating my resume ?
great advice!^ Another thing to consider is do you want someone to just do the thing for you, or do you want to get real insight and know why it might be best to be written a certain way? I do both, but a resume 101 workshop can give you good insights for you to be a better resume writer. It can help you at least improve part of the way so that a coach or writer can do final tweaks and not a full overhaul. Once a writer is done, they usually won't walk you through everything that happened, nor will you get unlimited edits for life for the future versions and iterations of resumes that you will probably need going forward. Learn to 'fish' and you can do the bulk of the tailoring yourself going forward.
I can definitely vouch for the value in finding someone who will teach you and provoke thought in a way that empowers you to be confident through your job search, as opposed to someone who will just write a resume and hand it over. Looking for a job is a lot more complicated than it used to be and being armed with some foundational knowledge in personal branding as well can help set you apart from other applicants.
Hi! There are tons of options available which can make it feel pretty overwhelming. I would maybe start out with deciding exactly what services you're interested in. Do you want career coaching? Do you need a resume writer? Are you looking for a one time consultation? Do you prefer a digital based transaction or in person? That could narrow things down a bit. Freelancing sites can be a good resource, there are a lot job board companies that offer resume services as well such as LinkedIn and Monster.com. I would also look into local resources as well. I'm a former career advisor and though I'm not especially familiar with your field I could absolutely help with some resume dos and don'ts that are more universal.
