Just transitioned to a senior manager role and then COVID-19, help!
Hey Everyone,
This is my first ever post and there's so much packed in my brain for it so I'll try to be brief(ish). In summary, after having served as an interim technology senior manager, I applied for and accepted a permanent position at another company as a technology senior manager.
I started in March of this year just days after my employer announced everyone was going to start working remotely. The employees were not accustomed to it and there were a ton of challenges along the way. Just as things had started to become more normalized for remote work, it became clear that there were going to be budgetary impacts and as a result, my position was eliminated.
So, the question I have is, how do I best market myself as a senior manager having successfully made that transition and having done that role for about a year (as an interim at one employer and a permanent employee at the other)? I get inquiries for my previous roles but have no desire to go back to doing them (which is why I transitioned away to begin with).
I've been working to update my resume and am trying to emphasize the work I've done as a senior manager, strategist, leader, manager and mentor to seemingly no avail. So I thought I'd post here and see what ideas folks have. I don't currently have my resume (or much else posted on FGB) but am happy to share more on an individual basis.
Thanks very much!
Omit and emphasize where it suits you in your previous gigs. Play up the senior manager role. Cut to the chase and answer the begged question by stating "impacted by COVID" or similar right there bc it will seem odd that it was a short gig. People will understand. This is how I have advised previous people I have coached.

Thanks for your response Cheryl. I'm not really looking for coaching (at least not how I understand coaching). I know what I want to do but am really just wanting to see if folks have ideas about how to best market/brand myself so that I get noticed by employers I'm interested in when I reach out. Anyone specialize in this? I've had a number of men reach out to me on this but what works for a man often doesn't for a woman. Appreciate anyone reaching out who has ideas on this. Thanks!
I can help you get your cover letter, resume and interviews to stand out.
