As with so many companies, our office is slated to resume normal functions June 1st.
Although I had initially resisted working remotely, it turned out to be a really good experience. Working remotely has actually had a positive effect on my IBS, and allows me to be more productive. IBS doesn't go away, and there are still bad days. However, they are fewer and the need to "go home" is greatly reduced.
Without bringing up a medical condition, what is the best way to request working remotely in writing? It's not that they don't know about my issue, but they need a written request.
Thank you in advance for your advice!
check if IBS might count as a hidden disability with your company. You probably have a confidential email address for accommodation requests or concerns. At some point, it will probably be disclosed in some non-specific manner to at least your manager e.g. "due to a health concern". But this sounds like a totally reasonable cause for staying WFH to me.
Thank you. I've never thought of IBS as a disability. It's more of a huge pain (literally & figuratively ?), but it doesn't keep me from working. And I wouldn't want to set back the advances made for the disabled and differently-abled.
They do know about it and if we have a meeting it may come up. Thank you for the advice!
Hey Lois! This is such an important consideration. I found this article—which has a worksheet included—to have some helpful thought-starters. Overall, I'd say to put yourself in the perspective of management and to prove that you can thrive just as well working remotely. Good luck!

Thank you! I know what I'm capable of doing, yet have a hard time putting it into words without sounding obnoxious. Add that to not wanting to go into detail, and I was just stumped. Thank you for the link!
I totally get that and often feel the same way! Bragging about ourselves is hard. You got this!
Thank you for your encouragement! ?
