Resume Over Coffee

Payroll, Pensions and Benefits in Cemtral NJ

My relationship with my boss was great until I challenged him on the lack of qualifications in his hiring of a friend. It was more of a you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours for him. He hired his friends wife and in turn his friend gave his daughter an internship she needed for college. The woman he brought into our office was completely unqualified and uninterested in being there. Everything I have her to do was done wrong and I had to go back and fix. I finally told my boss I would not accept anymore of her “help” as she was unqualified. This was the beginning of our problem. He has been after me and given me such a hard time since that happened. He has been bullying and harassing me ever since. And I have realized that he is now setting me up for failure. Things had gotten so bad that I actually went out on medical leave for 10 weeks to repair my mental health. I have never worked for such a toxic person. For the sake of my sanity and to preserve all of the work I did to repair my mental health over those 10 weeks I know that I need to find a new job. My problem lies in that I am not confident that my resume is good enough to stand out in today’s competitive job market. I never had the resume writing guidance that the millennials have when I graduated college in 1990. I am looking for someone to review/rewrite my resume and cover letter so that I can feel confident that I will get noticed when applying for jobs. I don’t have 100’s of dollars to get this done. Does anyone know where I could go to get help with this that is relatively inexpensive?

Hi Karen! You’ll get through this just keep positive and take action and don’t discount yourself. I graduated college in 1989 and have experienced a hostile work environment only once so I know what you’re going through. Now I’m in a wonderful working environment with an amazing company who acknowledges and appreciates all ages and hard work. I learn so much from the younger ones as well as older coworkers. Keep your chin up!!

Help is nearby. Google it. I am taking a career development course in college and a lot of it has been things easily found on Google. Create a Master resume just for you with all of your information in one place - skills, work experience, education, certifications. Google "targeted resume" and tailor your resume to each job you apply for. This is the knowledge of my college course, anyway. Good luck!
