How hard set are timelines to a CV, etc.
I prefer my resume section of experience to not include dates. This is a trend I've noticed during Covid, and its beneficial for two reasons.
1)Upon submission of ones resume generation x, y, or z does not come into play
2)A career gap i.e. family, etc. Does not become a deciding factor at the start
Now if we could somehow fix the equality factor in reality for all.
leaving off all dates makes it unclear if the resume is even remotely recent. Leave off the dates of degrees/certs unless they expire. Find a way to express older experiences/skills by listing in bullets under a common heading such as "Skills and Other" or a catch all heading under your Experience section "Other relevant Experience" and just list a mixed bag of bullets from previous employment.
You may prefer your resume section to not include dates but I can tell you as a recruiter with over 20 years experience that is a non-starter. Absolutely hard pass from me.
Good-to-Know, appreciated!
Career gaps are definitely viewed through a different lens than prior to Covid. Not as much of a concern, and it's not the Covid gap but all gaps seem to be more acceptable, raising kiddos, gap year, education, etc. What you prefer isn't the issue, it's what the recruiter is looking for as for longevity of experience. Someone can't be a subject matter expert within a year so to put VP of Marketing only and expect that to bring forth the value of a seasoned professional in that position is VERY misleading. Knowing when to stop on how far back to go is depending on position. Also, education, no need for year. IMO leaving off dates doesn't provide transparency. good luck.
