Hello, This is my first post here :-) I am currently a financial analyst (I've been in the financial world for around eight years or so) but I am trying to get a job in the the DE&I space .
I have updated my resume and I have applied to a number of DE&I educator roles -- this is something I would love to do--but I am not even getting any interviews, which makes me kind of sad. I am currently doing my ph.d. in sexuality education part time and I have a Master's in Anatomy & Neurobiology and an MBA in Heath Sector Mgmt + Organizational Behavior. I used to be a teacher back home in Canada. I am now here in the USA. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance!
Hi,
When you are doing a career transition, it's really important that you not only update your resume, but seriously consider whether your resume matches those positions. That means, making sure you use the correct language to illustrate how your experience matches, even though it's in a different field. If it doesn't, because you don't actually have the experience, then you need a killer cover letter that explains why you are a great fit.
Also, you will need to apply outside the EASY APPLY system. How you apply is probably MORE important than what your resume says, simply because you have to convince them that you have the right skill set without the experience.
Let me know if you need professional help.
Cheers
Joanne

agree! Be ruthless when reviewing what you've put down on the resume. Would you call YOU for the role? For these big pivots, you need to draw heavily on transferrable skills, volunteering(?), and the assumptions your reviewer may make when skimming. Make sure the assumptions lean in your favor!
If you are eligible for any of the pickets at a U.S federal agency, they get the nexus between science and liberal arts and would like your profile a lot.
Otherwise volunteer and network. On paper you look too smart for fare weather DEI jobs that exist to check a box. So many public and private organizations do not want equity during hiring, during employment, or during steps to terminate, layoff, or medically separate.
Good luck!!
Hi Elle,
Thank you! I will check it out!
Join Clubhouse and follow couple of recruiters who recruiters for DEI. You can look up on LinkedIn as well and contact those specific recruiters who has mentioned DEI in their LinkedIn bio. I am not in DEI but I am looking for new opportunity currently. I can understand what you are going through.
