Resume help!
Has anyone used a resume writer or a company that helps write resumes? I haven't updated my resume in years and could really use some help. Thanks!

IME, you would pay about $500 for one finished resume from some of the services I have seen. While it's nice that they give you back the finished product, IMHO, they do not give you a tool to use going forward. They don't tell you why they did certain things and it will only be usable for you at that moment in time. Like a snapshot. If you need to tweak it going forward you won't know if you are undoing their good work, or improving on it for your target purpose.
This is why I prefer to give the insight as comments when I help people and then they do the tedious work of the editing spaces, bullets, and deciding which outcomes serve them. my approach is "Teach you to fish".
There are free services, pretty much the service critique and it's do it yourself.
Free services are great if you are a great writer. In general, though, they produce a shoddy product that is boilerplate job duties. Then, you have a document that may not read in an ATS database or create an impression with recruiters.
Hiring a professional is an investment. Our clients are with us for life. Sure, it's my business so I am pro invest in yourself but, if you spent thousands on college, why wouldn't you spend $395 for a complete job search package?

CareerBenders is fantastic. https://careerbenders.com/
Angie Callen is the owner and she is a member of FairyGodBoss.
There is a new player on the scene, run by a guy I have met but don't know well. It's called Leet Resumes and it is free, though they do ask for "tips" if you're happy with the work. Check them out and maybe it'll be helpful for you. Best of luck.
Save your money. Look at linked in profiles of those in the field you want to work in. Sometimes they include their resume. Try to mirror their format and start from there.
I agree, except a LI Profile is not the same as a resume per se.
I did not mean the actual profile. Within the profile there is a feature where some folks upload their resumes some people do and some people don’t. I think it is a relatively new feature. But over the past few months I am seeing more and more people upload their resume. The resume is not the first thing you would see on the profile, but there is a section within the page that shows you that they do have it and you can open it to read. Linked in added this feature since folks can attract job recruiters on linked in as part of their job hunting strategy. Hope this helps
While those plug n play services are easy, they generally don't create resumes that are ATS compatible and they rely on YOU knowing what to write.

https://www.resume-now.com/ was helpful for me. It was quick and easy. I could cater resumes for specific roles.
I’m working with Jared at https://www.resumetarget.com and I really like his approach and product.
In the past I worked with Story Line Resumes. It was over priced and just OK.
Interesting. I just looked at their resume samples and they are quite outdated, have grammar issues, and aren't ATS compatible. Further, there are no achievements in most of them. Just laundry lists of duties.
Those must be old because the one that they did for me was done specifically with ATS in mind. They had to explain all of that to me. My resume is made up a mix of my achievements, responsibility, soft and hard skills, education, and professional development.
That's good! We get so many clients who paid for a resume only to have it simply reformatted into some cute look with curlicues and swirls but the SAME old information . . . a laundry list of duties.
