Winning at life vs. winning at career

Life and career, they shouldn’t be in competition with each other. Right now, for me, they are. I have recently been promoted from Sales to Partner Channel Management for one of the top three global tech companies. My new position is more of a grade school situation in which people with 10+ years experience, some in their 50’s, are being graded on grammar, spelling, proper English. That’s fine and all being that we have ways of checking grammar, proper use of words, etc. However, on Friday, the overseeing head of the department called out a European employee globally because she was too friendly. He stated that “emails are not greeting cards,” & that she was “vacuous & robotic.” Her emails were on the thread. There was nothing mindless or remotely robotic in her responses. She was helpful, & forthright. When she was confronted with the fact that she hadn’t spoken to the partner in quite some time (partners are self sufficient entities that do not always want guidance), she didn’t back down and make excuses, she was honest & admitted her distance from the partner. This higher up needs to be taken down multiple notches & honestly should be fired for his behavior. He is a bully, with questionable sleeping patterns based on emails he sends to employees at all hours of the morning, & frankly doesn’t seem to have much to do but read emails, which for someone in his position is pathetic. He’s clearly overpaid for this. He is not a leader, exhibiting the antithesis of this company’s brand of upbeat integrity & positivity. I want to quit while leaving proper notice due to this man. Everyone I work with is petrified, has high anxiety, & are at times immobilized by this man and afraid to do their work. I’m in my fourth week officially tomorrow. I know there is more to life than this, however with the current job market, the impending unknown doom we might face, & the money I’m making, I am terrified to make the leap. Any words of wisdom out there for a woman who just needs a break, but is scared to do what’s best for her mind & terrible for her pocketbook ?
