Am I flailing or doing the right thing?
So, I have been laid off (apparently a week earlier than they told me I would be, but that's a different post for later).
I've been labeled a Quality Control Manager for the last seven years, but my job was primarily editing translated materials and proofing print packaging before it was distributed. My whole life I've been more interested in writing and editing as a career field, and this job was the first thing I had an offer for out of college.
I started my own food blog a couple weeks ago, and have been working to learn how to monetize that. The hope being that one day I won't need a job because I'll be my own boss! That's the dream.
Then, as of today, I've been accepted for a freelance blog ghostwriting position through Upwork. I've also got a third interview for a Customer Success Manager position for a screen printing company. And I also potentially have a first round interview with a religious publishing company.
So, when I write that all out, it sounds like things are really looking up for me, but I can't help but look at the variation in the opportunities and wonder if I'm flailing, looking for a lifeline... any job to pay my bills... or if I'm actually doing the right thing.
What style of writing do you actually enjoy? I think answering that question will help point you in the direction of your next move. These do all sound like very different positions and are not clear here if there is direction for writing and editing in them.
There's definitely no writing in the Customer Success Manager position, but it should pay relatively well. The position at the publisher is for Publishing Contract Management, so no writing there either. That one I applied for to get into the industry. The freelance job is the only one where I'd be writing anything, and it's wildly variable based on what clients the company needs to serve that day. I personally prefer writing about food and DIY.
