Job pivot recommendations
About 3 years ago I was laid off after 18 years of being at the same company. I was a VP (fashion merchandising) and making a nice salary. I chose to take it as a blessing since I had never been home with my kids. I ended up getting my real estate license to continue trying to earn some income. The flexibility has been great as has the family time. But...the kids are now both in high school and even though I'm doing well, it's nowhere near my old salary. I'm ready to get back out there but would like to pivot into marketing/brand management or even consulting. It seems like every job posting I see (even at lower levels) is looking for more specific experience in that role than I have. Any tips on how to pivot? Thanks!
Hi there, I help women pivot in their careers, lifestyle and income. What I have noticed is comparing your high level corporate salary to what you prefer now is comparing apples to oranges. A realtor has more unlimited potential in making a great living than a VP in corporate and the hours will most likely be about the same. Companies are getting more specific because technology has , so they can offer a role with more specifics to someone who has the tech skills at lower level roles. Which means if you have been out of the corporate scene awhile it maybe tougher to get to where you were previously unless you decide to take a lower salary and build up your skills OR know someone in your previous industry to get your foot in the door. If you decide to consult it's important to excel at what you are really, really good at and position yourself to be that go to person and expert. Also, doable. Once you found your rich niche and signature service then you can reasonably name your price as a consultant . Hope this helps!
