Career Changers!

How do I move towards something?

I'm 39 yo and just finished my Bachelors in Business Administration. I've worked as an Executive Assistant for the past 12 years at different companies. I started as at EA at my current job and I'm now a Project Manager however it feels more like a title than anything else. I get paid extremely well but I feel like moving towards a specialty or something outside of Admin is the best thing for my career in the long term. The question is how? I don't currently have a specialty but as many of you know EA's have to have many specialties so I'm not afraid to jump into something and learn. Any suggestions on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! You're not alone -- I actually wrote an advice article for someone wanting to move out of admin work last year. Take a peek at this and see if it's helpful at all! https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-we-should-hire-more-misfits-case-eating-lunch-top-rundown-us-/

What do you enjoy doing? I used to temp doing executive assistant and admin work. I was grateful when I discovered a project waiting to be tackled or a presentation that need to be done. I was not nearly so fond of the routine stuff. What about you? Which business (or non-business) classes did you enjoy most? You might turn this around a bit and instead of thinking about specialties, consider where would you most enjoy working? Are there any types of departments/disciplines that you have enjoyed in the past? What about your outside interests? do you like sports or reading or playing video games? Are there any causes that you really care about? Would you like to spend your days surrounded by these; helping to make such organizations grow? Let me know if you have any further questions.
