Old job details
How much information should one divulge about leaving a previous career in an interview with a new employer? I left a career in the fire service because of an injury but I am able to work in other fields. I just wasn't able to do that type of physically demanding career any longer due to the injury. I didn't leave my prior employer for bad reasons or because of something I'm ashamed of. How much can I or should I tell a prospective employer about why I left?
Hi Anonymous, is there some reason you're hesitant to share your reasons for leaving? I don't think you need to volunteer if they aren't asking, but as a general rule, being honest and authentic is what I recommend in interviews. After all, you want to end up in a job where you are comfortable, not trying to make yourself into something you are not. Just try to keep it simple and to stay positive about both your previous job and about the opportunities you are exploring now.
