Career Changers!

Need advice

I recently made a career change from an education institution to a non profit. It's been about 4 months and there is a lot about the role task wise I didn't anticipate as well as some I have never done before and struggle with. I've made a few mistakes since starting but don't feel this is a very forgiving environment. I also have gotten the sense that my learning curve doesn't matter to management and I need to perform immediately to stay in this role. This is making me question my ability to stay the course on my career change path or go back to my previous industry. I need to leave this role it's just a question of which direction my next move is going to be. Any advice?

Non-profit jobs are very different as they tend to be "jack of all trades" type of positions where you do a wide variety of different things. You got this job because you bring something valuable to them. I agree, talking with your lead is a good idea. Don't be afraid to jump in and just do things.

It can take awhile to learn the lay of the land , 4 months is scraping the surface. Have a discussion with your manager on areas where you need some guidance and suggestions. Don’t quit without gaining the support you need , you may end up loving it!

Have you tried sitting down with your boss and discussing this with them? 4 months is still early in a new career. I too just changed and I haven't hit a month yet but there is a lot to learn and I anticipate that I won't be comfortable with all these new tasks for at least a year. Are there any opportunities for a mentor? Perhaps that may help if not your boss needs to know that you're struggling. The two of you can possibly discuss this and make a plan to find ways to help you in the areas you're struggling with. If you're adamant about changing your career, try reflecting back on your old career and what you enjoyed. Why did you leave your last career?
