Hi, All!
I currently work for a 10 person organization where I'm responsible for all tech (everything from strategy to managing pages on the website). My title is VP and I think it's making my job search extremely difficult. I'd love to switch to something that I think better suits my personality and skill set - I love digging into problems, brainstorming potential solutions, and leading projects to test and iterate on our ideas. I've been working for about 15 years now and have experience in 5 industries leading organizational transformation projects. Has anyone had success moving from business analysis, project management, and system administration into something like a product management career? How did you get around having an inflated title? Have I gone to far down one path to make a change? I'm so frustrated doing what I'm doing and want to move to a more fulfilling career that fits with who I am and how I think, but the resounding "no's" and lack of responses are making me think I'm stuck. Really wishing I'd never volunteered to be a system admin 10 years ago just because I wanted to learn something new and love a challenge.

I have a couple of people in my network who have done this same thing, so it's definitely possible. Perhaps looking at a different way of formatting your resume so that job titles aren't as relevant. I would also suggest reaching out to people within your network who may have ties to companies with positions that interest you and perhaps they can introduce you to the hiring manager. This may be a better way of getting through some of the recruitment process hurdles.
