Moved to Sarasota, Florida from Denver
Just joined FGB and love this site so far! I have moved near Sarasota, FL from Denver in November in search of a career change and I am having such a hard time landing work. I kept over 100 applied confirmation emails and I still can't find work. Two interviews and one company said I was over qualified and the other said I was unqualified. I have been in the oil and gas industry almost 10 years and have been doing accounts payable for 4 years, and I know I have a great resume. I heard from 2 staffing agencies I have a great resume. Still, no work. I am not sure what to do and I don't want to move back to Denver. I worked really hard to move away, but unless something comes up soon I will have to move back home. My question is to anyone who moved to another state or has switched careers having a hard time landing work? I am really just looking for any advice I can get in regards to changing my career and state. I am not sure if this group is up for questions, but I can really use some friendly advice. Thank you for your help,
AM
Hey there AM! Congrats on making your big move! As a career coach, based on what you're experiencing, I'd *guess* that there are tactical things you're doing in your job search that aren't working for you -- which is great, because it means that some minor tweaks could result in BIG changes in your job search. I did a podcast on this several years ago with some specific tips for getting better results. Are you doing any of these tactics right now already? https://www.happentoyourcareer.com/178-job-applications-how-high-performers-get-results-with-scott-barlow-and-lisa-lewis/
Lisa,
I was doing it all wrong. I knew the right people in Denver that helped me land two great jobs. Here in Florida I have to do things differently since I don't have any connections just yet. You gave great advice in the podcast and I will be doing everything you suggested. Thank you for helping turn another person into high performance job seeker.
Sincerely,
AM
Woohoo, Analicia! SO glad that you are the kind of person who takes action and implements! Keep us posted on how it's going for you!
Lisa, going t listen to the podcast now. Thank you :)
