What's your level up tip?

Want to level up this week? The next time you’re in line at Target (my all time favorite store) I want you to talk to the person standing behind you. Why would I ask you to do something so insane? Small talk is a form of networking, and being good at networking requires practice. Yes, I know you're an introvert, but this is a great skill to learn. It can open many MANY doors for you, and not just professionally. You can make life-long friends this way, too! If you’ve tried this before — or if you’re a serial small talker — I want to know what kind of outcomes you’ve had! Share with me in the comments.

What a wonderful suggestion. I do this all the time (despite being an introvert I think we all need more connection!) but never thought about it being networking practice. My problem with networking is (I think) a lack of confidence. Knowing that I am practicing is a bit of a boost! Thank you!

If you've never done this before and it feels uncomfortable. What if you spoke with someone who is in line with their kids or a pet? (Small dogs are allowed where I shop.) They do not have to be the person directly behind you. You can even choose the line because you see the children and gravitate to them.

I agree. Find something interesting or not so interesting. The topic isn’t as important as stepping outside of your comfort zone. You never know who you might meet.

I am definitely an introvert, so I appreciate this advice. Getting more comfortable initiating conversations with strangers, in any setting, seems like a great way to improve networking skills.

I often talk to the people around me in line...never had much in the way of "results" out of it as far as connections go, but it helps pass the time and reduces the frustration of the wait when the line is long.

It definitely helps to pass time. I also think it’s help with improve your networking skills. May it doesn’t help you much but what about the other person?
