Hate the Company Culture

I transferred to a Huge multinational Company (Manufacturing) last August 2019. I have been with them for 10 months already but I still hate the Company Culture. I came from a KPO/BPO set-up and also an MNC but everything is lean, management is compliant with policies and procedures and Culture is not toxic. Right now, I love my team but everyday I battle with a decision of resigning because of a demanding task, whimsical management, non-compliance to policies( and sometimes you gotta break it for the BIG people), and too much politics. Now, I plan to change my career because I don’t see any growth at what I’m doing. I’m not very happy with culture, to start with. It affects my views and my passion in what I do. My current job is a Facilities Manager. I have background in Admin Management and Procurement, and ISO standards. Can you suggest anything else that I can transfer to? Thank you and would really appreciate your advice and thoughts on this.

Work shouldn't be a 4-letter word.

Hi Anonymous, I'm sorry you're so unhappy in your current company and role. Good for you for not being willing to stay stuck and unhappy there! If you want to move into a career that's really right for you, you're probably going to need to do some work to get really clear on what's working and not working for you, as well as on what you want. There's some good info on the Career Clarity website, www.getcareerclarity.com, in particular a free e-book discussing the factors that everyone needs to look at to create career happiness. As a coach, I might be biased, but my personal experience was that I needed to work with a career coach to make my own career change! (Attorney to career coach.) Or you could start with reading a book like Pivot by Jenny Blake. Good luck! And let us know if you could use any support!

Hi Anonymous-I agree with Lisa’s comments/assessment. Clarifying why YOU are unhappy in this position with this firm is critical to deciding whether to stay or go AND where you should be looking for your next gig. This includes everything from what you expect from management to the size of the company: startups are NOT going to feel like enormous multinationals, period. If you love the feel of a startup, make them your specialty and focus. Best of luck!

Dear Anonymous, I would love more details to help. You mention you hate the company culture and end on a note about a demanding task. What is it that you are struggling with and is it something that is within your control to change? Is it a discussion you can have with your manager? Having a cultural fit is important but before you make a decision, I would highly recommend you get clarity on what the issue is and why it is creating such a conflict for you. It will help you gain focus on what you do want so that if you decide this is not the organization for you, you will have a better idea on what would be a fit in your next role.

It’s true that I am really not a culture fit. I’ve been with this new Company for almost a year but I don’t blend well with everyone. I try hard to, but it’s not me. I feel like I’m losing myself because I need to blend in. There is no growth too. Learning culture is not encouraged because you are just expected to deliver results, without a pat in the back, without a thank you which I miss because that is the culture I grew up with in my previous Company. My job was demanding too in my previous but I lasted there for 5.5 years because I love the culture. Anyways, I know I got to move forward. No job is not demanding, pay is higher when there are higher risks.
