I'm currently a software developer doing government contract work, but I've recently realized that I want to work in a job that has a bigger and more direct impact on the world around me. It could be helping the community, the environment, anything. The issue is that I don't really know what options are out there for someone with my experience, other than making websites or security for charities, which isn't really what I'm looking for. I have both technical skills and soft skills, and I'm even willing to shift my career away from software entirely if necessary. I thought it would be good to ask if anyone knew what types of positions are out there that are a bridge between the software and charity/social work industry, that use my skills but also have a big impact.
