Will Work for Passion
Hi all! I'm 26 and still figuring out exactly what I want to do as a career. Since I'm versatile, a hard worker, fast learner, and am passionate about so many things, I really could be successful at a lot. However, I don't just want to work - I want to be passionate about what I do and believe in it. I currently work at a school on their marketing team, but there is no one to learn from and I feel very stuck and stagnant. I don't know how to go about finding a new job that will allow me to learn and grow, without being taken advantage of because I'm young and still "entry level." I've been told I have excellent instincts when it comes to marketing, and I need a boss who will let me fly! Option number two: I start my own marketing company and hope that someone gives me a chance! If anyone knows where I'm coming from, please say hi and give me your best 2 cents. Could use some encouragement right about now!
Find a local Marketing Association and go to networking events. Maybe you can join a committee or find a mentor. Are you willing to start in an entry level job? Maybe social media or marketing communications?
Are you looking for any contract work, or perhaps freelance? There are many sites that offer those options so you can generate income and work with various teams to complete projects. I am a marketing professional, been in the business for over 17 years. I got completely jaded from Corporate America - so in 2018 I got certified as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Nutrition Specialist. I also an a rep for Juice Plus+ a great direct marketing company that is looking for passionate, energetic, opportunistic young people to be apart of their team. Let me know if you are interested!
Awesome, Lisa! I'd love to read your article, thanks for sharing.
Hi Cassidy! I hear you on wanting to tap into more of your passion. I actually wrote an article on this topic last year that might be helpful -- give it a read and let me know what you think! https://lisalewiscareers.com/offerings/looking-for-life-purpose-try-this/
Hi there, my suggestion is to retain a marketing mentor to learn from , this way as you blossom you will be well equipped to spread your wings on your own or into a position where you have more under your belt. You could also take a paid intern role in marketing of which you will then parlay into a position that is paying you to learn as you do the job. Linkedin has several posted.
Thanks, Jackie! I love your suggestions! I will start looking.
