Can someone tell me more about the Health Insurance field?
I was recruited by a popular company but I have some reservations because it's commission only. I have only worked with contracts and as a salaried employee. Plus I was asked to obtain my Health License. I really would like some advice.
I would not consider taking this position unless you have one to two years savings cushion to hold you over while you get licensed and try to build a book of business.
I actually would not recommend taking any 100% commission position for the average person. I did it but it adds incredible stress to the job for most people. I wouldn't do it again.
Commission only means no guaranteed income. If you need a steady paycheck can you stay at your day job and do this on the side? Also are they going to reimburse you for getting your health insurance license?
If you never worked a commissioned only job without a base salary it means you could go weeks, months or the entire duration of your job without a commission.
Even people that thrive in sales, it can take a while to build up the level clientele that could lead to stable income. Keep applying elsewhere.
Personal Experience: About 20yrs ago I worked as a mortgage specialist, commission only for about 2 years. As hard as I tried to contact leads and build clientele I only managed to close on 1 property making $5k. $5k in 2 years is not enough to live on. So if you cannot afford to take that gamble DONT take the job
