Hi Everyone!
I am a recent graduate and am looking for full-time employment in the DC area. Not in any particular field yet, since pretty much every job opportunity requires x years of experience that I do not have. My most recent work experience was at a daycare facility. Most job sites see that on my resume and gear all jobs related to that. However that’s not what I want to continue doing. I only worked in the daycare industry for so long so that I could afford childcare for my children while also finishing my undergraduate studies. I’m continuously applying for jobs yet never hear back or get notifications that I wasn’t selected. Any tips or Advice?
Just like in the end of Monsters University….. figure out what company— or what kind of company you want to work for: then find a low skill job “ mail room” and work your way into understanding what is needed for the job that you really want!!
I'm a recruiter and am continually amazed at how many people fail to answer specific questions on my job posting, or don't include a cover note explaining why they are interested in the position. Not sure if this is an issue in your case, of course - but we do look for that explanation! If you have a chance to explain why you are looking for a career change and/or interested in the specific position you are applying for, that might help!
