Smokers at work
How do y’all deal with people taking advantage of smoke breaks?
What do you mean by “taking advantage?” Taking longer than allowed or more frequent breaks than allowed? Using the fact that they are smokers to take breaks that others are not offered? I guess this is a hard one for me as I have worked in smoke-free environments for so long that I forget that anyone still smokes!
Taking longer and more frequent breaks which causes work partners to carry the load longer. Smokers have a private covered smoking outdoor area but non smokers have a patio set and umbrella. I work in a fast placed environment that is stressful by nature, so this just adds to my stress.
I think transparent, clear language. Does you workplace have a policy? Personally, I'd be direct without being judgy (is that a word? haha!) and speak directly to how extra breaks are affecting your work flow.
