Tech savvy former educational leader seeking guidance and mentorship in transitioning to IT/Tech - Cyber Security

Hello. I am new to the group. I am in the process of researching a career transition from the education field (K12 and Higher Ed.) to something IT/Tech related, possibly cyber security. I have many self-taught technology skills and extensive training in eLearning and educational technology. I am at the beginning stages of researching the KSAs needed to be successful in the field. I’ve looked into some coding boot camps and other related online courses, but am not sure as to the best way to begin this learning and career transition journey. Is it possible for someone with non-technical (computer science, IT) academic training to transition into the IT/cyber security field? I’d be interested in hearing from others in the field about what you like most, what the biggest challenges are, trainings, courses, certifications that you’d recommend, etc. Thank you in advance for any suggestions, help and support that you can offer.

Absolutely that is possible! I'd suggest the same thing that I've suggested to my son and nephew - go through the Google training program first (https://grow.google/programs/it-support), then focus on something like Security+ certification from CompTIA. I wouldn't go for certifications like the CISSP unless you're looking to get technically "hardcore"... but you could do some others. GIAC has some great options.
