Looking for advice...(UPDATE - thank you all for the advice, I'am going to have the interview)

I've been contacted by a recruiter about a new job. I am happy enough at my current role(IT Generalist). Is it wrong to take an interview if I'm only passively looking?

Never turn down a great opportunity when it presents itself if what you seek is growth.

I leverage those conversations as learning opportunities. To see what is going on in the industry, how jobs and teams are operating and where trends are at. I clarify that I am a passive candidate and open to learning more. Have fun with it :)!

Some of my best jobs came from when I wasn't looking but contacted by a recruiter. I would definitely at least explore the opportunity with them and see if you want to move forward in the interview process. Knowledge is power!

Of course. I like to keep abreast of the changes in the roles, titles and value in the market So many people get angry when they find out other people in their role or even lower are being paid considerably more than they are, hold higher titles for their responsibilities , etc. It's not the company's job to keep make sure you keep pace with the market. So this is a great way to ensure you are aligned with the latest trends.

You should definitely see what’s out there on the market to :1. Keep your interview skills fresh 2. Learn about other roles and salaries on the market 3. Reaffirm your satisfaction with your current role or potentially find a super interesting oppt that you might actually consider upon second thought. Best of luck!

You absolutely should. It's good practice, it a smart move to understand your market value, it's always wise to be courted.

People should be open to opportunities and certainly take the call to explore the opportunity. Recruiters realize this is part of our job. : )

Take the interview. If you're not looking and you get an offer now is the perfect time to negotiate a much higher salary or more leave or both!

Honey-- you always want to keep the door open for conversations-- how do you know what is out there if the doors and windows are always closed? Gets stuffy in there!!

You learn more by having those conversations... no rules that you have to move forward just to open up the conversation!! AOK
