Women of Color

Good Evening, I am having a hard time at my current place of employment.

I am the only non-white person in my department of about 20 people. I have been also been told by my superiors that I wasn't "hired for my skillset". It has become very obvious that I was the mandatory diversity hire. Because I am now being blatantly disrespected, I am beginning to look for a new position or place of employment. I have reported items to HR and they haven't done anything. However, I have learned this is not the first time my department has been reported by a staff member. And before anyone asks, yes, all of my superiors (my boss, my boss's boss, my boss's boss's boss, (well you get it) are all white, and majority white men. My question to the group is suggestions on how to keep my spirits up until I am able to find a new job.

I'm sorry it's been so long with no response. I am barred from promotion at work because they met their "quota" and do not require any more "bilinguals" as they said. I say lay low. Do your job competently, no more, no less. Interact as much as you need to get the job done and keep your reputation intact and get out of dodge as soon as you can. I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you were able to find a new employer.

Please also note, that I am a black woman so I stick out like a sore thumb.
