To Order Take Out, or Not to Order Take Out?

I've been conflicted about getting food delivered or picking it up. On one hand, you get to support local businesses during a really important time of need. On the other, delivery workers get put at risk. What have you been doing? Have you found a happy medium?

People still need to work, I've been trying to balance the takeout with the risk to my budget and knowing people don't have the privilege of not working

We have ordered by UberEats and washed our hands before and after delivery. I support tipping more heavily then usual to show my appreciation for working during these times.

A lot of businesses are adding a contactless option for delivery. You can call to ask them about it or, if they have an app, specify in the comments/instructions section. For cash tips (if the app doesn't allow it), leave it in an envelope sticking out of the bottom of the door and make sure it's noted in the instructions. To receive your delivery, you can have them place it on a chair or something you feel comfortable leaving outside your door. If you have any concern about theft, ask for notification for when the delivery is close and you can set things up a few minutes beforehand. If you are worried about contamination on the bags or packaging, here's what my family does: 1. Place the food into home dishes. 2. Throw out the packaging (or recycle). 3. Wash hands 4. Heat up the food in the microwave to allay any worries. 5. Enjoy. Above all other things, PLEASE thank these people who are risking their health to remain employed and ensure that we get our needs met. Tip well, they deserve (and likely need) it. Edit: added steps
