Hello Ladies,
Hope everyone is having a fabulous New Year!
I have been thinking about quitting my job for quite some time now and would love to hear all of your advice! I am currently working as a quality assurance engineer at a tech company and was a very high-performer until I realized I wasn't getting any fulfillment out of it. I voiced my interest in changing teams to a role that fit my strengths and skills but was declined multiple times due to "bad timing." The company's values do not align with mine and are filled with men. The fear of the unknown, rent bills, and outside influence are keeping me here yet I find myself wanting to impulsively quit almost every day now. I am 26, and have changed careers 3 times (if you count my degree) so I am a little skeptical. I'm currently studying real estate and envisioning a better/"free-er" future for myself but this 9-6 is causing horrible mental health issues and burnout. As the millennials say "release what no longer serves you." What do you ladies think?
Thank you,
Sarah

"along" not alone!
I think that it's time to leave - but get a new position first. They are working you to death and refusing to let you grow or change. UGH. Get a consultation if you have the $ and redirect your current resume to get the type of job you want (easier said than done). If you don't have the $, then search the Internet and Fairygodboss for advice and ideas. Let me know when / if I can give you my support alone the way. Best Wishes.
Hi there, I specialize working with women in your exact spot and guide you with how to gracefully transition from a soul sucking job toward a new career or business. My advice that I give my clients is to utilize your current role as the stepping stone to what you envision for your self and create a bridge.
The mindset switches out from all the negative going on with focus on the positive with creating your future and stepping into your future self.
I do not recommend you quit, just yet. I do recommend you invest in self care as soon as possible, take lots of reward breaks throughout the day and put a plan together.
Happy to offer you a free Next Level consultation. Contact me or email me at [email protected]
Totally hear you.
I am a QA and I can feel your pain. I voiced out out that I want to get into development roles and guess what? .My manager brings two engineers from outside. I love my company but I don't like my manager. I am sick of it and off late I lost interest in my job. I was not given even a chance. I self taught myself learning frontend, backend, AWS etc during this pandemic. I just started to work on my resume. Hopefully I transition to a SWE role soon.
Hi Sarah! I'm a Gen Xer and I agree 10000%. As my resume and CV can prove I've changed careers numerous times...some on my own accord, others as a necessity when nothing else was available, but I have always landed on my feet. Follow your heart and mind because life is too short to be mentally stressed over a job that obviously cannot see your value and worth.
I would be ecstatic if an employee expressed their desire to not only remain at the company but offer to transition to another position they know will help them thrive and flourish even more! I cannot understand, so my advice is this: They say "bad timing" for them I say "perfect timing" for you to take all your enthusiasm and genius elsewhere.
Keep focusing on your real estate because it's always genius to have multiple streams of income. We are the litmus test of our own worth. If you must, take a position that fulfills you until you can break free and go solo as an entrepreneur.
Keep rising! Keep us posted!
Best!
~Danielle
Danielle expresses this expertly. Not sure about becoming an entrepreneur, though. I'm trying to do that and it will take another 5 years or so to even begin to get established, meantime, I work full time at my old career.
I feel you. It can be tough. I may be old school but I say if you can quit comfortably, quit. However as this economy is currently doing an ebb and flow dance, you never know how long it will take to land a new job. So set a timeline and make sure you are avidly looking for a different career that is aligned with your values and leave. Your mental health is important, and being somewhere that doesn’t serve you is over. Do what makes you happy, just make sure the bills are paid.
