The Stars are Aligning
I wanted to share my latest in the hopes its helpful for someone else.
I recently received a call from someone I know about a company that needed someone with my background, skills and experience. I spoke with them and received a nice job offer package, which I've accepted. I was not actively looking for a new job and was content where I worked -- so why make this change?
Putting aside the salary and title (both of which were improvements), my main driver for accepting this new job was to "ease out" gracefully and position myself for my retired future. I see myself wanting to have contract opportunities that I can accept or not depending on what I have going on. As of now, I feel this will keep me from getting bored and also bring in some money to pay for all the wonderful trips I envision taking once the pandemic ends.
This new job is with a company that contracts with "experts" on an as needed basis, so going to work with them now, 2 years away from when I plan to retire, seems like the perfect thing to do.
I've always been a career planner and this is how I see myself easing out.
It sounds like you've got this!
I haven't seen this group come up on my scrolling, so missed saying Congratulations on your new opportunity! It sounds like a great way to "ease out". Well done!
Thank you. Now that I'm another month into the new job, I have insights about things I need to guide to make this work better. Always a challenge. But, at least I have the luxury of being able to just leave if I can't make these changes. But I want to stick with my plan, so am willing to put in the effort. After all, nothing good comes without focus and effort. At least, that's how things work for me. No fairy god boss looking out for me, only me to make things happen! :)
