I just started a new role as an HR intern, how do I jumpstart and grow fast as an intern?
Also, what resources will you recommend to me as an hr intern?
I am not in HR and know nothing about it. However, when trying to find what skills I should learn or improve in an administrative role, I looked at the skills of other admins as well as what skills were desired in job postings. Perhaps you can start there. Then, I found free resources online. For instance, I can take a class on Excel for free on Coursera by auditing the class. No grade and no certificate. But, those aren't necessary for me. All I need is the knowledge! Best of luck!
Congrats!!! I just watched one of my favorite movies The Intern (with Robert De Niro & Anne Hathaway). He listened, took on whatever, and looked out for the betterment of "boss". I would say go in with the idea of how you can make a difference, an impact, and be a cultural add to the company! #makeithappen
Congratulations on your intern role. Here are some things I would do:
- Be willing to take on anything that you're asked to do. Be sure that you are clear on exactly what the steps and outcomes are.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions.
- When in meetings, listen to learn.
As for learning about HR, here are some resources:
- SHRM (Society for Human Resources)
- Human Capital Institute
- See if there are any LinkedIn Learning courses
- There is a group called HRHotseat that started in Chicago but now has other chapters across the country. Since things are virtual right now, you can attend the Chicago events no matter where you live.
Good luck.
