Women at Dealerships

Ladies, do you work in the automotive industry?

I have worked on the finance end and currently work within the dealership side. I welcome you to share your experiences, your struggles, and victories so that your fellow female friends here can learn, share, and not feel so alone in their experiences. I'll go first. I recently left a high-end dealership and am starting with another dealership next week. I ran into some issues as a woman. One piece of advice I received from a fellow woman was that I needed to be, for lack of a better word, "tough" with the men. I found that to be mostly untrue. There may have been one or two men I needed to be tough with. While being firm in general can be beneficial, I didn't need to be extra firm with men just because I'm a woman. I worked hard, I helped the team members on the floor to the best of my ability, all while being kind and approachable. Needless to say, my last day was bittersweet, and I received many wonderful sincere wishes from the men I worked with.

I've sometimes thought I'd like to sell new cars *if* I could sell a brand I truly believe in. There are STILL way too few women who sell new cars.

Hi. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Is it solely not believing in the brand that's stopping you? Are there other reasons? And what's your opinion on why there aren't more women in the salesperson role? I agree that I've seen very few women in the role of selling cars.
