I am delighted to see that so many women have joined this group.
It is such an important topic.
However, I would love to hear from you about:
- What drew you to the group?
- What you would like to learn about?
- What would would you like to share?
The word (Menopause) plus in the workplace.
A topic no one hardly wants to talk about. I work with someone who are suffering with this and its affect everyone. This individual have triggers we don't why she has out burst and her emotions are getting out of hand. It can cause a toxic environment for others. Just saying. I have seen her behavior change over the years we been working together, she didn't use to be like this. Thanks allow me to vent about this, Its not easy saying this here, but I taking my chance. Have a Great Day everyone.
I joined this group so that I can GIVE more of myself and my passions. I have the vision to connect, inspire and transform mid-life professional women to live a life free of shame and judgment.
Thanks for being here, Jen!
I joined as I am currently going through perimenopause. when I am in the office I carry a hand fan and when it is commented on, I explain that I am a woman of a certain age and it was a medical device.
also curious about how to manage these hot flashes because it is just SO GREAT when you are just sitting at your desk and sweat is dripping down you
I used to have those mini-fans that plug into your phone and would frequently turn that on and hide it on my lap. Made a huge difference to have the air move and it also eased my anxiety about looking so HOT! Hang in there... this too shall pass!
Hi Michala,
Yes - hot flashes in the workplace are horrific! Here are some ideas for you:
Get a small battery or USB operated fan for your desk
Keep a glass of ice water on your desk - sipping the ice-cold water can ward off a hot flash as can wrapping your hand around the ice-cold glass
Stay away from caffeine
Don’t wear anything silk - blouse or scarf - as it holds in body heat
Stay away from spicey foods
Check out the website of the North American Menopause Society (menopause.org) for more information and to find a menopause specialist in your area (there is an option to enter your zip code to find one). You may determine that a short course of Hormone Replacement Therapy could work for you - but you should consult a menopause specialist to discuss your options.
I hope this helps, Michala.
