Need advice for new job following mental health break

I had serious burnout at my last job, left and took a lengthy break before returning to the workforce. I recently started a new job at a different company. I think I’ll have a more manageable workload here and initial impressions of the company and management are positive. However, it’s still a senior role and I know expectations of me will be high. I’m also mostly an individual contributor here so no one to delegate work to. Any specific tips on preventing burnout? Thanks

Find someone at another job in a similar role (a colleague or acquaintance from past work, someone in your industry), with whom you can get together once or twice a month. Plan for those times. Put them on the calendar. Get coffee or wine or lunch. It will give you someone to reflect with, bounce ideas off of, check the pulse.

Use your calendar religiously (if that's possible). I schedule time throughout my day to workout, to take breaks and go for a walk, to just think, and to do the things I love that keep me happy. Scheduling time for personal things helps me keep in perspective the value of personal vs. work life. What line of work are you in?

It can feel lonely. If you are a director, manager, or team leader you can't talk to your peers at work for fear of being seen as weak. You can't talk with your boss or leadership board because you ...Read more
