Loved your session today! It really resonated with me that I've been in burnout mode for a while. Going through a divorce (of 15 years) and losing my job (of 20 years) all at the same time has been an overwhelming experience. To top that off, I'm trying to make a transition in my career (from advertising agency to client-side marketing) and keep hitting walls, as well as experiencing a lack of focus to get there. I'm struggling to determine if my decision from a career perspective is not the right one for me at this stage in my life and am wondering if my decision to attempt doing so isn't serving my true purpose. Some days I can focus and stay positive, others I crash. Any thoughts for how to proceed? Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! Yes. Exercise #1 would be to make a list - I love opening a page in the back of a notebook and on one side start a list of everything you know you do want in your job / relationship and on the other, everything you know you don't want. Make each item as specific as possible. You can include feelings - "I want to feel XYZ at work" and "In my relationship, I want to feel..."
Exercise 2: Think of what you've learned from your experiences - the ones that are the hardest often have the most to show us. What did you learn in your marriage that you would share as advice with someone? What are truths that you know understand? Same for work. What have you learned that you know for sure from your experiences during this transition? Write your answers down.
Then, look at those answers. They're thoughts you've got. Check in to see if you really do believe them and if / how they're serving you.
You're welcome to share some drafts here or in another chain anytime!
