Burn Out now What

I'm sure I'm experiencing burnout. What can or should I do now? I feel like I need to tell my boss but she can be over the top. What can I ask for to help or is it time to cut the cord and move on? Any help would be lovely. Thanks!

I would start by trying to identify some specific contributors to your burnout. Write them down if it helps. This list should help you determine if the burnout is a result of your organization (poor benefits, not enough flexibility, limited opportunities for professional development, etc.) or the specific job you're currently in. If it's job-specific and your boss/organization will allow you to pivot, I would explore that route. However, if the burnout is a result of the organization, it's probably time to look for work elsewhere. Hope this helps! Best of luck!!

It's a combo. I feel like a small pivot would really help me but there is no chance for that kind of change. I feel like I'm 15 years too young for this job and the culture isn't matching with my values anymore.

It may absolutely be time for evaluating a change. Some of the thoughts around what is and is not possible are fueling your feelings of being stuck. If you're willing to explore it, this is one of my fave homework assignments for clients who feel trapped at their job: Open a new page in a note book - maybe in the back of a notebook you use already. On the left hand side, write all the things that you now know you do not want in your next role. Try and keep it as objective and fact-based as possible. It may be, "I do not want to be responsible for XYZ." On the right hand, write all the things you know that you do do want in whatever comes next. " This list will keep evolving as you go through your days this week. It will also help you recognize if it is really time for a change. You can then choose to ask your current boss to help you align your responsibilities to what you do want or, when it is time to change and you have new options, you can use this list to assess whether or not it's really a good fit.

Thank you so much for your help. I am going to do this homework today. I have also been going through a manifesting worksheet to see what I WANT to be doing. It feels very challenging to start fresh.

About this group

We are in this together. Burnout is real and it can impact every single part of your life. The good news: This is your space to share, connect, learn and lean on other women who have been where you are and are ready, willing, and able to help you get where you want to be. It can feel lonely. If you are a director, manager, or team leader you can't talk to your peers at work for fear of being seen as weak. You can't talk with your boss or leadership board because you ...Read more
