Overwhelmed - but all alone?
So many of the clients I work with cite overwhelm as the/ one of the biggest burdens in their life. And you know what? They all also say they feel isolated or alone.
Have you ever experienced overwhelm? Do you think it’s related to feeling isolated or ...?
And, for all of our group, what helped you?
I don't think it is uncommon. Plentiful of research suggests that anxiety/feeling overwhelmed/burn out will be accompanied by feelings of isolation. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/being-unlonely/201912/workplace-burnout-and-loneliness-what-you-need-know Additionally, personal characteristics, life scripts will all determine how we cope, with some people pushing toward others when faced by stress and strain and just as many people intentionally or unintentionally pushing away (they will become argumentative, imperceptive, volatile, stubborn etc). Growing wellness work suggests that interventions should have a component of breaking stress cycles, mindfulness, and network or support to help. Personally, I journal to gain focus and share what I can't work out with others. But preventatively I work on creating positive moments - fun days with family, picnics, listing gratitudes, meditating - doing what I can to reprogram my overwhelmed, tired brain.
